Dear Love Voz,

I always considered myself ready for a serious relationship, but when something comes close to that, I get scared and break it off. I think the reason I get scared is that I feel that guys just can't be trusted in serious relationships; that at one point or the other, they are going to get the wandering eye, and that's the end of a relationship.

According to the article, 14 percent more people are experiencing debt stress this year than in 2004 and the number will continue to grow as our economy slows and gas and food prices rise.

A robotics competition against Foothill College on June 7 ended in a De Anza College victory.

Students from the two colleges built two bots each for a game called "quad quandary," played in a 12-foot by 12-foot arena in Conference Rooms A and B. The teams scored points as bots picked up and placed 50 available rings onto movable posts and goals in a series of matches.

With his books on the second floor of the library, a De Anza College student prepared for his next class, asleep.

Dan Nguyen, 20, a biochemistry major, is taking 20 units and working part time. He said he usually gets only five hours of sleep at night.

Nguyen is one of many college students who do not receive enough sleep, according to a recent study published in the Journal of American College Health.

Before the Student and Community Services building opened in the summer of 2005, the California budget cuts during the 2003-2004 fiscal year hit the staff hard, forcing the termination of all part-time counselor positions in 2004.

The Counseling Center's budget has remained relatively stable since then, said Jeanine Hawk, vice president of Finance and Student Services.

Now that summer break is just a week away (whew!), many of you are probably planning to spend a great deal of your soon-to-be free time at the beach. But what would the beach be without a bag full of books? Empty. Well, at least in the figurative sense. So, with many publications coming out with their summer reading recommendations, I figured I might as well offer a few of my own.

The De Anza College men's water polo team looks to improve this year upon the last season and their third place finish in the Coast Conference championship. The Dons ended the season with a 5-10 record overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Although this year's water polo season does not start until the second week of September, second year head coach Tom Grimm is already looking forward with much optimism, particularly in light of how well the team has improved in the last nine months.

1. The ready position. The arms are level and held high at the shoulder. Imagine yourself holding a bow and pulling on an arrow. Most of your weight is on your rear leg. The heel is the only part of your front leg that makes contact with the floor. Focus on where you want to hit the ball.

Both Don Nickel's article in La Voz Weekly and my Counseling 80X class in the LinC Program were very valuable to me in finding help with my academic plans. The first time I made an appointment with a counselor, I received information and got help with a student educational plan.
