Moments of Homesickness
I phoned my mom in Sweden. She was at a family party. Everyone was there - everyone except for me of course. Before I knew it my mom passed around the phone and I got to talk to about eight people (I lost track of exactly how many). My grandma said she missed me and grandpa thought it was time for me to come home.…

Indie Band 'The Virgins'
Since I had no concert to go to last week, I would like to talk about one of my favorite indie bands. The Virgins is an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 2005. The members are Donald Cumming, Wade Oates and Nick Ackerman, and I love these three New Yorkers (they were formerly a four-piece band, but the drummer ran away).…

Copyright claims clamp down on creativity
Comiket, quite possibly the world's largest comics convention, has hit Japan again. Describing it as "crowded" doesn't begin to cover it - tacking on adjectives like "stifling hot," "overwhelming" and so on merely scratches at the surface. It is often considered the Geek's Mecca, and not just half-seriously at that.…

California's embarrassing taintAs the World Burns
In the struggle for equality, California has been embarrassed twice now when it comes to its contribution in supporting civil rights. First, 7,001,084 morons voted yes on Proposition 8. Next, Miss California Carrie Prejean regales us with her sadly ill-informed opinion on same-sex marriage, based entirely on what her mommy and daddy told her.…

Pink Hearts
In these pages and in the classroom, I have taken the media to task for their insistence of focusing on all that is negative about the economy to the point of irresponsibility. Granted, I understand that part of the job is to sell the publication, and everybody knows that bad news sells.…
