Dear La Voz editor,

I appreciate La Voz publishing the ongoing conversation many of us interested De Anza Students are engaged in regarding the possibility of having a shared peace room on campus.

La Voz's article last week raised some serious questions about having a prayer/meditation/peace/sanctuary room on campus.

I'm particularly concerned about some of the comments in the article, such as Larry Nicholls' quote, "I don't see how Christians can interfaith with non-Christians." This is a very divisive comment, and I'm not sure it represents the view of other Christians.

I'm also concerned about Nicholls' statement, "They [Muslims and Christians] have different Gods." I'm not well informed about their faiths, but I was under the impression that Muslims worshipped the same God as Christians, but referred to God as "Allah."

As I mentioned at both the ICC and DASB meetings on Wednesday, I believe one of the things La Voz's article shows is a need for better understanding and dialogue among different people on this campus. Now is not the time for destructive anger. Now is the time to engage in constructive dialogue.

Government and Religion

The government should protect religious expression, but not engage in it.
