The no smoking policy may be enforced as early as September, according to Health Services Coordinator Mary Sullivan.

Though the chancellor's advisory council still has to approve phase two of the smoking policy, Sullivan says she does not expect much opposition.

"Everybody's agreeing that we move forward," Sullivan said. Students will be given a verbal warning on their first offense, referred to a judicial body on their second offense and have disciplinary action on their third.

"I don't think it has been finalized what [referral to a judicial body] would mean," said Sullivan. Punishment would be in line with other violations of the Student Code of Conduct, such as dishonesty and cheating.

According to a smoking policy update given to the student senate, other colleges have rarely had to resort to disciplinary action.
