Issue date: 9/25/06 Section: Features
Monday, September 25, 2006Fall is here and we here in the Health Services office are in full bloom. For those of you who are new to campus, there are numerous services that we provide that include, but are not limited to: TB tests, minor first aid, BP checks, condoms and lubricants, pregnancy test and over the counter medications.
Our hours of operation are: 8 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fridays. We can be reached at 408-864-8732.
As many of you know, we have a no smoking policy on campus that is going to be enforced. The word "enforce" does not mean punish, as many seem to believe. To enforce simply means to implement or 'to put into place'. This means that the no-smoking signs, the verbal reminders, the messages on the De Anza web page and in the Schedule of Classes are all examples of enforcement. Other examples of enforcement are warnings, citation, and fines. Our office provides Smoking Cessation counseling as well as "No smoking" patches and/or kits.
Student Health Services has great things in store for the upcoming quarter and year. October starts the ball rolling with National Breast Cancer Awareness, Dental Hygiene, Healthy Lung, Family Sexuality Education and numerous other topics that our office will be providing information and raising awareness all over the campus.
Our goal is to provide services, support and education to all students, faculty and staff. We look forward to meeting and speaking to each and every person on campus. Also stop by to meet me. My name is Licia Johnson, and I'll be your new Health Educator for this school year.
