Transfer Events
Representatives from universities will be on the De Anza College campus to help students with transferring. All events will take place in the Transfer Center, on the second floor of the Student and Community Services Building, unless otherwise noted. For more information, see www.deanza.edu/eventscalendar. - San Francisco State: Monday, Sept. 25, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Main Quad
- UC Irvine: Tuesday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Cornell University: Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2 - 4 p.m.
- UC San Diego: Friday, Sept. 29, 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- UC Davis: Monday, Oct. 2, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Campus Areas Closed
Due to construction, the following areas are closed:
- The area between the Flint Center Parking Structure and the Flint Center, including the Flint Center turnaround and the cottages
- Staff parking Lot J
- The service road between the A Quad and Student and Community Services (Delivery access will be from Parking Lot A)
Shofar Factory and Apple Shots
The Jews, Israelis and Friends Club invites students to build a Shofar on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and to enjoy "Apple shots" (drinks of apple juice) and apples with honey snacks on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events will take place in the Main Quad, near the fountain. Events are in honor of the holiday Rosh Hashanah.
Writing/Reading Center Open House
The Writing and Reading Center invites all students to an Open House to celebrate their new location on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon in ATC 309.
Last Day to Add Classes
The last day to add quarter-length De Anza classes is Friday, Oct. 6.
Last Day to Drop Classes
The last day to drop and receive a refund is Friday, Oct. 6. The last day to drop a class with no record of grade is Friday, Oct. 13. The last day to drop with a W grade is Friday, Nov. 17.
Late Start Classes
Students who need to add a class late may add the self-paced CAOS (Computer and Office Systems) classes through Dec. 1. Listening and Speaking ESL classes (ESL 210, 211, 213, 216, 223, 224) start Monday, Oct. 9, and can be added that week.
Flint Parking Structure Access Restrictions
Due to construction, the Flint Center Parking Structure is open, but with access restrictions for vehicles. The east entry is closed to all traffic and the south entry is open for entry, but not exit of vehicular traffic. All pedestrians should use the south entrance for access to and from the campus.
Applicants needed for Measure C Oversight CommitteeThe FHDA Board of Trustees is seeking seven members for a Measure C Bond Oversight Committee, including a currently enrolled student. Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter with their qualifications and desired category to chancellor@fhda.edu by Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. Information is available at "www.fhda.edu/citizens_oversight_committee_applications.
Cross Cultural Partners
The Cross Cultural Partners program matches ESL students with native speakers to promote cross cultural friendships and improve English language skills. Obtain information and pick up an application in the Listening and Speaking Lab in ATC 304 or at http://www.deanza.edu/ccpartners/. Applications are due Friday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
Language Exchange
Practice the world language you are learning with a native speaker during World Languages Week in November. Applications will be available online and in the Listening and Speaking Lab in ATC 304 starting Oct. 23. For information, go to: http://faculty.deanza.fhda.edu/ifftmaryanne/.
Rolling Stone commends De Anza department
Rollling Stone Magazine named the De Anza Fiim/TV Department as one of the top ten community college programs in the country.
Need help with giving a speech?
Students can receive help from a tutor with their speeches, practice recording their presentations or talk about conversation problems in the LSL in ATC 304 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and until 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Smoke-Free Campus
De Anza is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is permitted in certain parking areas: Student Parking Lots A and B, the top floor of the Flint Parking Structure, the North section of parking Lot E (near Auto Tech) and Staff Parking Lot A-1.
Recycling Fax and Print Ink Cartridges
Bags for recycling FAX and print ink cartridges are available for staff in the Staff Development Office in LCW-13.
Celebrity Forum Speaker Series
This year's Celebrity Forum Speaker Series will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Speakers include Christiane Amanpour in October, Bob Dole and Tom Daschle in November, Bill Cosby in November and December, David Breashears in January and February, Jared Diamond in February and General Wesley Clark in April. The series cost is $260 and $360 for the six evenings. No single speaker tickets will be sold. For information, see www.deanza.edu/housing.
Bands and Performers Wanted
Does your band want to perform at De Anza? Bring or send a promotional package with a tape or CD to the De Anza Student Activities Office in care of La Donna Yumori-Kadu. The Activities Office is located in the lower level of the Campus Center.
Free Recycled Computers for Students
Free recycled computers are available for qualified De Anza students who have filed for Financial Aid. For more information see the Scholarship bulletin board in the lower level of the Campus Center.
