Mixed feelings about talking to "God"
"Conversations with God" boasts brilliant acting
Asif Ahmed
"Conversations with God" is based on a book by Neale Donald Walsch and was produced by Stephen Simon ("What Dreams May Come"). The story may come off cheaply melodramatic to some and inspirational to others. Regardless, the production is bad.
It felt like a made-for-TV Lifetime movie with the necessary obtrusive and cheesy soundtrack and cliché grasps at emotion.
The only thing missing was a tampon commercial during the intermission.
The movie's saving grace is the acting of Henry Czerny, whose portrayal of Neale Walsch can be appreciated by anyone.
Unfortunately for Czerny, these opinions are based largely upon the storyline. Some people will not be enthralled with the depiction of Mr. Walsch as a prophet for the portrayal of this religion or philosophy.
The movie was way too predictable. Most people will be able to foresee the techniques used to generate sympathy for the main character. Still, there are others that will appreciate the overall message of 'Walschianism' and the portrayal will seem fitting.
It felt like the story meandered and didn't have a major purpose until the end.
However, the potential to enjoy this movie with the major divergence in ways to take this in, this movie gets a 2.5/5. Add a point if you read and liked the book.
