Famed artist to visit
Asif Ahmed
Issue date: 2/26/07 Section: Features
Stop by the California History
Center this Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
to witness the vivid watercolor
paintings of Chizuko Judy Sugita
De Queiroz.
The paintings on display were
created as a reconstruction of
Chizuko's childhood spent in
internment camps.
Queiroz cites influences
from her travels to India, Japan,
Mexico, and Europe. She has won
numerous awards for her art and
has held exhibitions in Laguna
Beach, Lido Isle, Newport Beach,
the Japanese American National
Museum, the Japanese Gallery,
the Fine Artists Factory and the
Orange County Art Association
Gallery.
"My work is concerned with
perception, memory, inspiration
and interpretation, and also what
I'm feeling about the time, the
place, and the environment …
painting is hard work and sheer
joy," Queiroz says on her Web site.
The free event is sponsored
by the California History Center
and funding is provided by the De
Anza Student Body.
