'Teapot' takes potshots at sex
Christopher Ibanez
With love in the air and many sexually active students looking to score, De Anza College health educators were out in force on Valentine's Day promoting safe sex. De Anza's Health Services set up a Valentine's Day table in the Main Quad where students could put together cards for their sweethearts and snag some of the 14,500 condoms that Health Services gave away that day.
"The goal here at De Anza College isn't to judge behavior, but to help guide students in making good decisions," said Licia Johnson, a health educator at De Anza.
One display was a condom poster provided by Targeted Expansion for Outreach and Treatment (TEAPOT) showing different sizes and colors of available condoms.
In order to reach the Asian American population, TEAPOT distributes red envelopes resembling traditional envelopes used to hand out money at the Lunar New Year. Instead of cash, students are offered a "Safer Sex Pack. The packs say, "Our goal is to improve the health and wellbeing among Asian and Pacific Islanders."
Some of the students making cards also added condoms to their Valentine's greetings.
