Professor rating Web site needs higher standards The editorial "RateMyProfessor.com full of students' spite" was a very nice article that covered a very relevant topic. I've personally spent hours poring over ratemyprofessors.com and found many of the reviews to be worthless. Any comments that are nothing but opinion, like "She's the best teacher I ever had" or "He's HORRIBLE! DON'T TAKE HIM!" give me no quantitative information about who the teacher actually is. Things like "His energetic lecture style keeps the class engaging" or "She provides extra credit if the class average is low" are much more useful.
The best solution, besides encouraging students to be more mature and considerate as you did in the article, is to moderate and edit the comments, and hold them to relatively high standards, like the Web site Wikipedia.

Article important in promoting equality As an openly gay student on this campus, I am very happy that the [online] article "Former NBA player coming out a positive step toward gay and black civil rights" was written! There is a lot of hate surrounding the black and gay communities. We know what it's like to be pushed down by society and I think we should all come together to achieve our main goal: equality. I will always stand by those who have and are currently being oppressed by our society today.
