Yasaman Shakeri

Sophomore swimmer Yasaman Shakeri started swimming seven years ago when she joined a club team as an eighth grader.
"I took swimming classes before that, but it was just little kid classes." Shakeri said. She spent five years swimming for club teams until she joined the De Anza Cupertino Aquatics team two years ago At the first out of the two meets so far this quarter against West Valley and Foothill, Shakeri placed first in the 50 - back race. She didn't compete in the second meet due to a shoulder injury from a morning practice.
Shakeri is a Saratoga native from Prospect High School. She's studying Wildlife Biology, taking 14 units and wants to get into University of California Davis. All her activities are balanced with a healthy range of practices in the morning before class and throughout the day.
"I was in cross country, and kept meaning to quit swimming to do cross country. I guess I ended up doing swimming instead of track," Shakeri said.
Still, she doesn't plan to pursue swimming as a career, "just competitive swimming in college." Shakeri's proudest moment is when she placed third in last year's Coast Conference in the mile-long race. "It was the most painful thing, but it was worth it," she said.
Hopefully, Shakeri will be restarting her morning practices once her shoulder heals and competing once more for the De Anza Dons and DACA.
