The driver of a white Toyota lost consciousness while making a U-turn at the corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Stelling Road last Thursday at around 5:10 p.m., resulting in an accident.
Two men in a pickup truck behind the Toyota got out of the vehicle to block traffic heading toward the accident.
A fire truck, sheriff squad cars, and paramedics were able to respond quickly since most of them were nearby after helping contain a brush fire at the Highway 85 and Interstate 280 off ramp.
Battalion Chief Kendall Pearson of the Santa Clara County Fire Department was on the scene when the Toyota hit a light post, since he was heading over to an electrical fire call in the De Anza Boulevard area.
Engine 16 from Los Altos was heading back to the station when it got the call about the accident. "We were able to respond very quickly," said Pearson.
After treating the injured man,
paramedics drove him to a hospital
at 5:31 p.m. Traffic was still
held up until a tow truck took the
damaged car away.
