Joe Chunnic
Issue date: 5/5/08 Section: Sports
Name: Travis Adams
Hometown: Morgan Hill
Major: Classical studies
Dream school: Santa Clara University
Position: Outfielder
Favorite pro athlete: Nolan Ryan
Most memorable baseball moment: When Adams was 14, he was playing in a Pony League game. As pitcher, he "[struck out] 20 kids," he says. "I only gave up one hit in that game."
That hit, unfortunately, came from his best friend.
Baseball has always been an important part of Travis Adams' life. It has given him inspiration and helped him find himself among all the chaos.
"I just want to keep improving and finding out about myself as a person," Adams says.
He also knows that "baseball can only take you so far."
His parents have stressed academics throughout his student career. He knows that baseball will come to an end at some point, but he can "excel in a career with academics."
"There [have] been a lot of guys that came from De Anza [to Santa Clara University]," says Adams.
"I didn't come here until October or November. It was the right fit for me and it was good to have that pipeline [from De Anza to Santa Clara University]."
"He had a good week for us," according to baseball head coach Scott Hertler. "Hopefully he finishes up strong."
Adams has been hitting his stride as of late and the team seems to be building around his consistency.
"If they get hot, it transcends to the rest of your team," says Hertler. "He's had a pretty good season."
Adams' parents and faith have led him to this point in his life. Adams aspires to become a United States attorney and with his good family background, his faith and education, he'll likely achieve this lifelong goal.
