Issue date: 5/5/08 Section: Sports
Name: Travis Adams
Hometown: Morgan Hill, CA
Major: Classical Studies
Dream School: Santa Clara University
Position: Outfielder
Favorite Pro Athlete: Nolan Ryan
Most Memorable Baseball Moment: When Travis Adams was 14, he was playing in a Pony League game. He was a pitcher and he "k'd 20 kids," Adams said. "I only gave up one hit in that game." The bad part about that hit was that it came from his best friend.
Baseball has been an important part in Adams' life. It's given him inspiration and helps him find himself among all the chaos. Adams says that he just wants to keep improving and finding out more about himself as a person.
He also realizes that "baseball can only take you so far," Adams said. His parents have stressed academics throughout his student career. He knows that baseball will come to an end at some point, but he can "excel in a career with academics," he said.
There has also been recent success with former De Anza College baseball players going on to Santa Clara University to play.
"There [have] been a lot of guys that came from De Anza," said Adams. "I didn't come [to De Anza College] until October or November. It was the right fit for me and it was good to have that pipeline [from De Anza to Santa Clara University]."
"He had a good week for us," said head coach Scott Hertler. "Hopefully he finishes up strong." Adams has been hitting his stride as of late and the team seems to be building around his consistency. "If they get hot, it transcends to the rest of your team," said Hertler. "He's had a pretty good season."
Adams' parents and faith have led him to this point in his life. Adams aspires to become a United States Attorney and with his good family background, his faith, and education, he can achieve this lifelong goal.
