De Anza College students who want to carry one less card in their wallets will be able to do so by mid fall quarter.
The contract between De Anza College and US Bank is pending final signatures.
Once signed, the five-year contract will add ATM capability to the De Anza Associated Student Body Identification Card as soon as the end of fall quarter.
There will be two changes to the current DASB ID. The number on the card will change from eight digits to 16 so that it can function as a debit card number, and a US Bank logo will be printed on the back of the ID card.
The agreement will provide the DASB with a discretionary $15,000 signing bonus and $15 per new account opened, with a guaranteed minimum of $8,000 annually, no matter how many accounts are opened as a result of the deal.
Although all new DASB cards would carry the functionality, students will have the choice to activate it at a US Bank branch.
There will be no additional costs for students who want a card except for the current $6 student body fee.
According to 2007-08 DASB senate Vice President of Budget and Finance Eden Su, additional revenue can be used to increase funding to programs supported by the DASB Senate, such as the Tutorial Center and the library to ameliorate problems from budget cuts next year.
"It's one less card you have to haul around," said De Anza vice president of Finance and College Services Jeanine Hawk. Hopefully this will encourage students to get a DASB ID because of its additional advantage, she said.
Personal information such as social security numbers will not be embedded in the card, Hawk said.
She said, "There is no concern at all about private information being lost."
US Bank is ready to offer Financial Wellness seminars to students on banking basics, budgeting and other topics that students are interested in.
Another agreement between US Bank and the college is the facilities rental contract.
Hawk said that US Bank would be leasing roughly 500 square feet of the bookstore for a small US Bank branch where students and faculty can open accounts and withdraw money.
US Bank and De Anza College are finalizing the facilities rental agreement by ensuring that the contract contains the Educational Code and Board policies pertaining to facilities rental agreements of community colleges.
An additional ATM machine will be set up outside the Student and Community Services Building to give students access to banking services when the campus center and the Student and Community Services building are closed.
