The tutorial center offers the best learning assistance to De Anza students free of charge. Students who are seeking help in their studies should feel free to drop in, set an appointment, or sign up for a study group. The study group program in S-43 covers most math and science courses. Approximately, there are 50 different study groups and 25 study group tutors. Since last year it has doubled the amount of study groups and tutors. For every four students there is one tutor, increasing the coverage and student support. When asked why he became a tutor, senior tutor Paul Edwards said, “What brought me here was my concern in the state of math. What keeps me here is student success.” This overall attitude towards helping De Anza students is what keeps the tutorial center growing and outreach stronger.Becoming a tutor is an effective way to look into a career in teaching. It also helps student-tutors become an expert in a subject through teaching and assisting students. Being a tutor looks great on resumes and on applications for transferring to a four-year university. Instructors also write amazing letters of recommendations for tutors as well.If you feel like making an impact and contributing to the De Anza community, becoming a tutor is the way to go. To download the tutor application, go to www.deanza.edu/tutorial/tutoring. Tutors take a training course and are paid $8-10 per hour.
